In the 70s, when everyone was rockin’ feathered hair and flared jeans, Gru (Steve Carell) was growing up in the ‘burbs. He’s a right fan of a super villain group called the Vicious 6 and dreams of one day joinin’ em. Lucky for him, he’s got his trusty Minions, Kevin, Stuart, Bob and a new addition, Otto with braces and a desperate need to please, to help him hatch a plan to become evil enough to join them. Together they build their first lair, experiment with their first weapons and pull off their first missions. But when the Vicious 6 oust their leader, Wild Knuckles (Alan Arkin) and Gru goes for an interview to become their newest member, it doesn’t go well and he becomes their mortal enemy. On the run, Gru turns to an unlikely source for guidance, Wild Knuckles, and discovers that even bad guys need a little help from their mates.
